What exactly is Spiritual Direction?

At its heart, spiritual direction is a safe, confidential space where you sit down with a trained companion to look at the landscape of your life through the lens of faith. It assumes that God is already active, present, and speaking in your everyday moments. A spiritual director doesn't tell you what to do or hand down rules; instead, they help you slow down, notice, and respond to the gentle invitations of God.

Is it the same thing as counseling or therapy?

No, though they complement each other beautifully! Therapy generally focuses on mental health, psychological healing, and processing past traumas or behavioral patterns to find emotional resolution. Spiritual direction focuses primarily on your relationship with God. We look at where you feel stuck spiritually, where you notice grace, and how you are experiencing prayer and your day-to-day life with God.

How much does it cost?

Refuge Spiritual Direction's standard fee for a one-hour spiritual direction session is $50. I accept Paypal, Venmo, cash, or checks. I do not accept insurance. If you have any specific logistical or scheduling questions before getting started, I would love to discuss them with you during your initial free discovery call.

How often do we meet?

Typically, we meet once a month for a one-hour session (virtually or in person). Unlike counseling which often requires a weekly rhythm, a monthly structure gives your soul the time it needs to live out, digest, and sit with the reflections and invitations of our time together before we gather to process again.
